FORECAST DISCUSSION
Deep southerly flow will continue today out ahead of a developing storm system in the Plains.  Temps will likely approach 80 in a few locations.  Tonight the surface low pressure will begin explosive strengthening over Iowa as a very strong mid-level jet streak approaches.  As the storm gains intensity, it will sling a band of showers and thunderstorms through here later Monday night into early Tuesday ahead of a strong cool front.  With so much energy in the atmosphere, it won't take much to get some of those stronger winds to the surface with the heavier showers/storms.  The front and associated precip will clear the area by mid-morning Tuesday.  At that point the storm center over Minnesota will really begin to explode in intensity.  By Tuesday night the storm is progged by many models to be as intense as a category 3 hurricane.  With such a deep low pressure over the northern Midwest we can expect to receive very strong wind gusts starting Tuesday and lasting through Wednesday.  Several models forecast wind gusts to exceed 50mph over our area.

A hard freeze looks likely Thursday morning, but after that we will warm back up quite nicely for the end of the week.
